Food Safety Consortium joins Codex Alimentarius Commission
November 27 - Dexember 2, 2023
The 46th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC46) was held physically at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy from 27 November to 2 December 2023, and FSC joined the meeting as an Observer together with over 200 Observers and 189 Members. The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) was jointly created by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations, and it develops standards, guidelines and codes of practice related to food safety and quality. Themes covered by Codex include COVID-19, animal feed, antimicrobial resistance, biotechnology, contaminants, nutrition and labelling, pesticides, and other issues relevant to global food standards.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of Codex’s establishment – 60 years of commitment in international food standards development, protecting consumer health, and removing barriers to trade. For more information about Codex and CAC46, please visit here.
As the first and only non-governmental organization (NGO) observer of Codex from the Greater China area, FSC echoes Codex’s whole food chain approach to food safety and strives to such advancement by addressing unmet needs and emerging challenges through multidisciplinary innovation and technologies and enhancing public awareness.
