FSC Industry & Academia Exchange Workshop - Food Supply Chains Management with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Invited by ITDO and FSC, Senior Director of Programs at the MIT Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI), and the Executive Director of the Food Safety Initiative at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Dr. Stacy Springs, together with the J. Spencer Standish (1945) Professor of Operations Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management Prof. Retsef Levi and their team members visited PolyU to explore the possibility in conducting translational research across various disciplines with PolyU, and foster international partnerships to in maximizing synergies in advancing global innovation and technology.

Hosted by Food Safety Consortium (FSC) and co-organized with Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), the “FSC Industry & Academia Exchange Workshop - Food Supply Chains Management” was held in the Hong Kong Science Park on 27 March 2019. The workshop attracted more than 50 industry stakeholders, featuring Dr. Stacy Springs to share the collaborative efforts of MIT in food safety, and how the academia and industry can join hands to address risks and development of innovative solutions towards better food safety.


PolyU’s Dean of Faculty of Engineering Prof. HC Man, Dean of Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Chair Professor of Department of Computing Prof. Jiannong Cao, Professor of Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology Prof. Sheng Chen, Associate Professor of Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology Dr. Zhongping Yao and Director of Innovation and Technology Development Dr. Terence Lau participated in an exchange meeting to share the PolyU’s latest food safety and life sciences related R&D, the related  enabling technologies, on-going private and public partnerships and innovative projects with substantive impacts.


Tour visits to the incubation and communal laboratories in Hong Kong Science Park, PolyU University Research Facility in 3D Printing, Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC), and other research facilities in life sciences and food safety were  arranged to showcase HK and PolyU’s latest R&D infrastructure to support the development of new technology-based industries.
